Laissez-Faire Economics
Those who were supporters of Laissez-Faire Economics believed that government should not interfere in the free operation of the economy. In the early 1800s middle class business leaders embraced this type of economy. The main proponent of this type of economy was, Adam Smith. They believed that the factories would change peoples life's in a negative way.
Utilitarianism
Utilitarianism is the idea that the goal of society should be "the greatest happiness for the greatest number" of its citizens. Utilitarians sought to make sure that laws judged in a way that would provide happiness over pain. They wanted to improve the lives of the working class. Some democratic governments of today, have absorbed some of the ideas form the utilitarians.
Socialism
Socialism is the system in which the people as a whole rather than private individuals own all property and operate all businesses; or a system in which the government controls parts of the economy. Their objective was to end injustice and poverty. They were therefore often called utopian dreamers.
Communism
Communism is a form of socialism advocated by Marx, in which an inevitable struggle between social classes would lead to the creation of a classless society where all means of production would be owned by the community. The first introduction to communism was when The Communist Manifesto, by Karl Marx, was published in 1848.
